Don't bet the farm on a vaccine

We have little manufacturing capacity in this country for vaccines. You just don't convert a solutions or a pill facility to a vaccine facility overnight. And we don't have many of those to spare either. Pharmaceutical manufacturing has been outsourced to places like China Rico in the past decade or so. According to CDC since 2006 the seasonal flu vaccine has never been more than 60% effective. Two years during that period it was less than 20% effective. That was shooting at targets we know about. Imagine a target that never stops randomly moving. That's what a mutating virus can do. Finally there is a portion of the population that can't take vaccines of any type for fear of an auto immune reaction called a cytokine storm that attacks your nervous system. Cytokine storms were a big concern with this virus at first. Not so much now, but the mutants could. if that happened it would cause a cytokine storm in the patients lungs. It would be like H1N1 in 1917-18 that was extremely lethal in young patients.
