I'd have to get off my butt and research orbital velocity history, and


since I won't, I wonder how many flights of what kind (X-15?) and how the historically magic 17,000mph came about.

It must take training I'll never comprehend to cope with the acceleration of a launch, the 4G forces, then watching the earth go by below and then "slow down" to cruise into docking. If it was me, and docking was imminent, I'd still be looking for fresh underwear.
