I'm curious about that line of thinking


Because by any objective measure, cars today are A LOT more reliable than they were years ago.

Now, they are also a lot harder to work on than they were in the past. You just about need to be an electronics technician in addition to being a mechanic to get anywhere on a modern car.

Just in my lifetime, I've seen car reliability go from 60k miles being considered over the hill to 200k miles being considered ordinary.
