Right, but they couldn't restructure the team like you can in 2020 to fit
how you want to play through free agency. You had to work with what you had so that's what the Bulls did. MJ also had Phil Jackson walking him through that.
Teams don't have to build from inside out nearly as much in the NBA now. Heck, KD couldn't win with the teams he had so he just went and signed with GSW to win some championships. I think without that signing, LeBron and the Cavs probably win one of the two championships in 17 or 18, despite subpar coaching and management in Cleveland.
