PHNC, many years ago, the Virginian-Pilot


wrote an article re: the proper pronunciation of Norfolk. After writing about the English pronunciation of the name, they phonetically recommended the proper pronunciation: Naw-fuc*. Needless to say, in the 60's, that was considered a major faux pas.
