Schalles Award
The Schalles Award for the best collegiate pinner in America is annually presented by WIN Magazine, Cliff Keen Athletics and the NWCA. The award is named after Wade Schalles, one of American wrestling's most storied pinners and a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. During his collegiate career at Clarion (1970-1974, W/L record 153-5-1), Schalles set the NCAA record with 109 pins. No Division I wrestler prior to that time or since has ever reached the century mark. In addition, he was a 4x NCAA champion(150 and 158 weight class, 2 college division and 2 D-1 championship titles) and named Outstanding Wrestler in 1972. His 10-0 D-1 tournament record included 8 falls. He also was the former head wrestling coach at South Dakota State, Clemson and Old Dominion.
