Remember these are private clubs too, nothing Constitutional about this


part of the process. If the Democrats and/or Republicans want to pick their candidate in smoke filled rooms that's perfectly OK although the primaries probably serve to have enough signatures to have that candidate's name put on the ballot in that state. If the lag party gets 5000 signatures, they can have 'lags name too on the ballot.

Despite that the parties have managed to arrogate public property to nominate their candidates, last I heard they each get $50M (maybe more now) for their national parties (as in having a party with streamers and catering.)

Surely there's a way for the parties to do this online now.
