but sometimes life goes on. I mean that's sorta the original purpose of red-shirting, no? If something comes up you get one Mulligan year, use it wisely. If you're a student-athlete that really intends to graduate and go to grad school this is great of course but otherwise the purpose of college isn't to get another season in. The other paradox is that it's a zero sum game, if a player gets another year, then someone else loses that year, eg, next year's class. Someone will play one year less. Of course, current player's may decide enough is enough and move on mitigating that.
