If we fire Fu, we should be creative with the next HC. Forget Xs and Os

Let's go find someone with leadership and/or sales experience rather than a strong "football resume". Maybe it could be someone who is an assistant working their way up now or someone who was recently an assistant coach but moved on to another career.

Take a look at Dabo. His resume was VERY thin prior to becoming a HC. However, he EXCELS in the spots a HC needs to excel. He's an excellent communicator. He's great with PR. He can connect and close with recruits.

By hiring someone whose resume is football thin, we should be able to save some money with the hire. Let's say we make the hire for $2 million/year, we are essentially saving $1.5-2 mil/year. Devote that money to staff. Now instead of approximately $500K per coordinator and $250-300K per position assistant, we can pay $1 mil per coordinator and $350-400K or so per position assistant.

Too often, the focus in finding HCs is in finding someone who excels in Xs and Os. But that isn't the job. The job is MUCH more about PR, closing the deal, and running the operation. As the head of one organization I once worked for said, "leadership is leadership". As long as you have a handle on your goals and how you'll achieve them, it's more important to get the right people and put them in the right position than it is for you as the leader to know the intricate ins and outs of the operation. This is Dabo in a nutshell as well. He manages the PR. He is the closer for recruits. He manages the big picture items. His assistants handle the Xs and Os.
