Soil in the humid eastern US will become acid (I.e., low pH) over time and
will require occasional liming (except for acid tolerant plants such as blueberries, potatoes, etc.) Soil testing will include a pH analysis and a liming rate, if necessary. Most of our veggies will do well between pH 5.8 and 6.8. Less than 5.5 risks aluminum toxicity and greater than 7.2 risks micronutrient (e.g., Zn, Mn, Cu) deficiency in coarse-textured (I.e., sandy) soil.
