2020-2021

While most are disappointed in the 5th place finish, its hard to be too upset when you look at the future. Next year's lineup will most likely be very improved.

125-Prata is back and has been solid this year, but I think Latona is the guy here. Great redshirt year and is primed for a big career. Remember earlier this year he dominated Camacho from NC State who just beat Mueller. Latona is a big, long 125 and while I think he stays at 125 I wouldn't rule out him bumping up to 133. If he does, don't be surprised to see Ventresca in the lineup as a true freshman.

133-Gerardi is back but seems to have hit a wall at the end of the year. Not as offensive as he has shown previously. He was someone who was right there with RBY last year and now there is mile wide gap between the two. Does Korbin Myers return to the lineup healthy? Does Latona bump up? There have been rumors and whispers of a 133 transfer which be huge is accurate...

141-Mitch Moore returns. Love his pinning style. Think he takes a big leap forward again next year.

149-Bryce Andonian. LOVE this kid. A few years ago when he committed, Robie said something like we've never had a kid who wrestles his style where he is a threat to score from anywhere. Its 100% true. Hopefully he continues to get stronger and in better shape.

157-Here is where things get interesting. Laprade has one more year, but I have to say I have been disappointed in him this year. Started off the year strong, but has faded hard. Connor Brady is redshirting and I know the staff is very high on him. But Brady is a BIG 157. Can he maintain that for another year? Does he need to bump to 165?

165-Love Dmac but something is wrong with him. Ever since the UNC dual he hasn't been himself. No offense anymore, not good on bottom. Has to be an injury of some sort. The good news is a certain National Champ is returning to the lineup. My question for Lewis is similar to Brady...Lewis was a BIG 165 last year. Can he maintain that for another year or his entire career? I haven't heard anything to suggest otherwise, but just a thought. If he does bump to 174, it fills a huge hole.

174-Cody Hughes battled this year and became an NCAA qualifier. Huge respect for him. He's gone after the year and there isn't much behind him. Ulrey comes in, but I think he is better suited for 165 in college. The situation with Green hurts here as I think they were looking to him to be the 174 of the future. No fault of the kid or the coaching staff there-just happy he is ok and on the road back to a healthy life even without wrestling.

184-Christiansburg Cowboys returns. Can he make it two straight years with a champion for VT? Similar situation to some others, he is a BIG 184 (crazy that he looked like a normal 174 two years ago as a true freshmen). Can he hold 184 or does he bump to 197 and Howard slides into 84?

197-Smeltzer and Howard both return. Stan has gotten better as the year as gone along, but still doesn't have enough offense. Howard seems much better suited for 184. Have heard people question if Borst could get back to 197-I don't think so, but it's not unthinkable.

285-Borst returns as an NCAA qualifier. He is good on his feet and athletic. I'm intrigued to see him with another year of experience. Could he potentially drop to 197? Maybe. I don't think it's likely, but it would open up the spot for Hunter Catka to step in as a true freshmen at heavyweight.
