My thoughts are that Smith was much better at his position than...


...Prescott has proven to be so far, and Smith was coming off two great seasons and a Super Bowl win. I think he was also scheduled to make $450,000 the next season.

Also, I don't think Smith is saying Prescott should not be paid more, just that what he's reportedly asking might not leave enough room to acquire the other talent Dallas is going to need to compete for a Super Bowl title. If my research is correct, Smith's salary following his holdout was about 12% of the salary cap, while Prescott's (if he signed for $35 million/year) would be almost 19% of the cap. I don't know how the deal would be structured so maybe the actual math would work out differently, but it just seems crazy to me to handcuff a team with such a high percentage of available salary money going to a single player who really isn't going to carry the team on his back.
