Speaking of things that stay around a long time that are annoying or
should have been nuked ages ago -
I left the 'burg for CLT in 1984. At least four or five years before then the company where I worked worked designed, welded, screen printed and installed this sign (below) at the entrance to (then) the Daddy's Money parking lot. John D hated people who parked in his lot and wanted a sign with teeth.
That sucker was built from 1/4" plate steel and a 1/4" x 3" or 4" steel tube. The bottom end, down in the concrete 3' below ground level, had torpedo-like fins welded on it. It originally said, "DADDY'S MONEY PARKING Only. Violators will be towed and crushed." The Town wanted it removed and the argument was waged until it crapped out. The google street view pic says it's 2019, but I don't know if that's accurate. The other pic was from an earlier blog (2010).
Nice to make stuff that lasts and gets such respect.
