Define Reliability? Least issues when purchased? Least repairs per year?
Per 5 years? Going to last for 200K miles? 300K? Cheapest repairs?
Reliability certainly does and will matter, but I don't believe that there are big gaps in reliability between the models we'll consider. Or at least not big enough to matter. Let me paraphrase some analysis I saw a number of years ago.
Car A has an average of 1 reliability issue (some sort of failure where you HAD TO head to the repair shop) in 3 years. Car B has an average of 1.5 failures in 3 years. So Car be has 50% more failures requiring repair in 3 years!!!! My god! That's HORRIBLE!!!
But in reality, you're talking about (if you keep the car 6 years) 2 unplanned repairs vs 3 unplanned repairs. Eh....no big deal, IF you really like Car B better for safety, handling, price, features etc. etc.
