So there is a strange thing happening today, which has become more

typical with any kind of very public tragedy or celebrity death. folks on my facebook timeline and twitter feed, many of whom have probably not even thought of Kobe Bryant in the last 18 months or so, have shared a headline of his passing with sad face or some narrative on the impact he had on their lives. if you actually feel that way, it's completely fine. I heard the news myself and thought, "that's terrible, especially considering the kids..." I watched a fair amount of Kobe during his prime, as anyone did, and I hate that he died this way. but I don't really need to take a day off of work or try to convince other folks how sad they should be about it. the social media reaction in general, has been over the top. to the extent that some other twitter thread related to a video game (in no way sports related) is being chastised for continuing on with their day and posting content about the game. people legit come into the thread with crap along the lines of, "not today, #kobe" as if the world needs to stop. grieve how you want to grieve, absolutely, but don't dictate that everyone else must stop their lives to accommodate your feelings.

FWIW, none of the you/your in this post are actually directed at anyone on TSL. more of the "royal you" if you will.
