I don't understand why there is so much angst over that last 4th down play
As I understand it, if the runner's forward progress is clearly stopped (usually due to gang tackling), then he is marked down where he came into contact with the first defensive player who contacts him and stops his progress and the play is blown dead at that point. It doesn't matter whether someone strips him of the ball as he is going down. Period. I don't know why people can't understand this.
Fact is that had Foster been able to stop Kentucky from scoring 37 points, we wouldn't have been in that situation. If the offense had been able to score more than 30 points despite having more than 1 month to prepare, we wouldn't have been in that situation where a single call mattered. It was the coaches' responsibility to NOT keep the score close so that a single call wouldn't have mattered, but they failed to do that. This loss is on the coaching staff
