I think it works pretty well. The room is less of a factor, it basically

projects an image within the room - so I can see my normal surroundings, less so if the room is very dark, and it projects the image within that space. the projections essentially look like 3-D projections of a character but they move around and towards you, strike at you with lightsabers, shoot at you with blasters, etc..

the lightsaber duels are a lot of fun. I have yet to try the holo-chess game and the space battles are kind of meh. We may end up with a second one down the road as you can use two units to saber battle with another person - although, I may hold off and consider a full VR unit of some kind down the line. I just don't know if I want a stand-alone unit or one tethered to a PC or console. The one big draw-back of the Lenova Star Wars set is that it is one powered by your phone and it EATS the battery so play time is relatively short - you could probably get a good hour out of it, tops. For that reason, if shopping for a VR set, I would not consider one powered by a mobile device.

All of that said, I got it for a pretty great deal on Black Friday - pretty sure less than $60, which is on par with an Xbox or PS game, so well worth it. post-holiday prices are closer to $100 from what I have seen, which puts you 1/2 way to an entry level VR set, which is probably the path I would take if shopping now.
