That is an extraordinarily ambitious trip. Concur that summer in Europe is

too crowded in the big cities.

Regarding the French, I would no more judge the French by the behavior of Parisians than I would judge Americans but New Yorkers or Bostonians. Get out of the city and the people are really nice.
