I'm seeing 2 routes laid out when I map it, but I'd avoid I95 and

especially the GW Bridge like a plague if I were you...and I used to live in CT so I know the traffic there pretty well.

Take 15 into Harrisburg and 78 across from there. Then the map says go 287 to the Tappan Zee, but that will put you into CT on I95, which MIGHT be ok depending on time of day.

But you could also take some PA State Rd (611) out of Easton and head north to Milford and just take I84 from there into Massachusetts. While the traffic COULD still be bad, it's almost certain to be better than I95 or the GW or much of southern CT.

And then that stretch of road becomes your stopping point. It's about halfway. Just look for a hotel on or near 611 between Easton and Milford.

The road goes near/by a PA State Park, so a decent chance for some good scenery and leaf peeping too. Even if this route DOES take you longer, it won't feel like it did, and you'll save a fair amount in toll payments as well.
