Coaching changes are roughest when it involves a new style or system
because that means the current players as a whole are not a perfect fit, and that the coaches have to rely on transfers, junior college kids, or future recruiting to execute what they want to do.
Great coaches adapt to what they have available and get results. Good coaches make the existing pieces fit the system as best as they can while they mold the roster. Average or bad coaches use the total rebuild excuse and are not held accountable for results until a couple years have passed.
I'm personally very harsh on any coaches who say that a total rebuild is necessary. That to me is them getting big paychecks and not having to produce results for several years. That's a shell game. Good coaches should be able to use what they have to get results. Coaches get waaay too much leeway compared to most other professions.
