I actually could see him playing a similar schedule for a couple years.

I see his move to play more events on the more lucrative Japan Tour as a signal that he's putting down roots over there. He already has 10 European Tour starts this wraparound season, since they have so many co-branded tour events. That also allows him to play the S. African events that are close to Zimbabwe. Players who go through European Q School on average only get 17 events.

He would only play a better schedule if he would happen to win a European or WGC event or finish 110 or higher in the Race to Dubai (he was 163 this year). There have been complaints that the Euro Tour is very hard to get into (as compared to the PGA tour). Once you win or make the top 110, it is very hard to lose your card the way the tournaments are tiered.

He could jump into the second stage of PGA Q school, if he wanted to go that route, but from his social media I get the impression he would rather stay in Asia than slog through the Korn Ferry Tour.
