My best friend from childhood told me today that he just learned he has a kidney tumor. Apparently he noticed that his urine was a strange color so he went to get checked out, which led to an ultrasound that seemed to reveal a mass on one kidney. A CT scan later confirmed it.

The complicated part is that he's currently in Mexico for an extended stay, so now he has to fly home and will probably require more testing here for doctors to confirm the diagnosis. The Mexican doctor told him it's likely he'll need to have the affected kidney removed, but that should take care of it.

I tend to be a worrier, so I am concerned for him. Even though he won't say it, I can tell he's worried, too. I am praying that it is contained and has not spread anywhere else. My friend is the same age as me (37), and we have already lost another high school classmate to kidney cancer in the past 2 years.
