That would be a Red Admiral


if it opens its wings yo see a near orange circle, ie, it looks like a flower to something that might want to eat it.

I have a picture of a couple of them attacking my hiking boot in the Smokies. Wondering what attracted them, something about the boot material or my sweat? Have seen all sorts of butterlies crowded around poop so...
