Show me instances of police officers losing their jobs for "responding".

I'd love to see them. Hell even when there's a questionable shooting/use of force most don't end up being charged with anything and of the ones that are very few are actually convicted. My head's not in the sand at all. Police officers are like any other subset of people... many/most are good people just doing their job. Some have no business having any authority much less being in law enforcement. Same goes for the military.
