Looking when we bought our new house 3 years ago, went to two local stores for a fridge and washer/dryer. They def had a higher end product..but also came with a higer price (and smaller variety). Rays Maytag..had, well, Maytag. And G&H had another brand or two. Both had very nice products.but were at the very top of what we wanted to pay.
In the other hand, Lowes and Home Depot are constantly offering great deals and have a large selection to choose from.
Sure, if you want to get a specific brand, no matter the cost, a small local shop will be perfect.
And i totally get that some appliances will be duds, but you can also get warentees from big box stores too.
We got a LG fridge from Lowes and Samsung Washer and dryer from home depot on sale (previous year model). The washer had a recall within its first year.they send someone out to fix it quickly. Door broke on the fridge, we called and they got another delivered and installed within the week.
My parents bought some fancy top of the line fridge from a local shop and have had to get it replaced twice in 3 years.
Lemons happen. The local place has one guy that does the repairsso when he gets busy, you have to just wait. Big box places outsource to local people too..and if theyre busy, you have to wait.
For us, big box had a much larger selection and much better sales.
