TIC...I really don't see anything wrong with this. One of my best friends is a pastor and he told me that following the church shootings in Charleston, SC, he was approached by several members of his congregation who work full-time in law enforcement. They requested to mobilize a similar security team, including armed people qualified and trained to respond to an active shooter situation.

I don't think it matters whether you call it a police force, security detail, or safety team...it's basically just a way to be as prepared as possible and to protect the church members. It seems like the responsible, proactive thing to do, in my opinion.
