Holzhauer Jeopardy theory.

Legends are made faster in 2019 than when Ken Jennings' accumulated his 2004 win streak/earnings total.

I suspect James Holzhauer gave strong consideration to how much longer he could stand what were surely becoming "epic" social media encounters or outright confrontations, and decided another eight weeks was untenable. Maybe another week was untenable. So why chase that?

IMO James is an extraordinarily rare, knowledgeable good guy, competitor and sportsman who values his personal life (Trebek gave him many opportunities to share it). I think he may have decided to stop short of Jennings' total victories to get his life back, and he - look at the way he played Final Jeopardy in his last game - stopped short of surpassing Jennings' winnings total out of respect for Jennings. James was a superb player who'll always get mentioned and may still find further earnings potential ahead based on his Jeopardy run - but I think he left Jennings with the two main records that made Jennings a long-term legend and himself a highly respected individual.

James will always have the daily totals, "perfect game" totals, best averages:
"He has set the record for the most money won in one episode, holds the second spot on the list, and the next 14. Eleven times during his winning streak, he has gone a whole game without buzzing in incorrectly." (from NYT)
