If I recall, LT played QB his junior and senior years of high school. For some odd reason, LT wanted to play TE instead of QB in college. I think most schools recruited him to be a QB. VT really wanted him at QB, but told him if he truly wanted to play TE, he could be a TE at VT. Once on campus, the VT coaches told him he could play TE, but they really wanted him at QB.

But to your point, VT wanted LT, period. If they couldn't convince him to move to QB, he would have played TE at VT. But our coaches said they really wanted him to play QB from the beginning. (Funny what you learn when you attend the "recruiting round up" briefs to the Hokie Club chapters.)
