I'd point to 2009, and our failure to land a QB that year

We've rewritten history and labeled Logan Thomas as our QB recruit that year. Thomas did play QB some in high school. But Tech recruited Thomas to play tight end, and Thomas and his high school coaches were good with that.

The top two high school QBs in Virginia that year were Tajh Boyd (Clemson) and Kevin Newsome (Penn State).

Thomas of course turned into a good QB for the Hokies. But Beamer's goal was to land Newsome as QB, not Thomas. Do those that don't want to believe that Tech wanted Thomas as a TE, I'll leave with the fact he'll enter his fourth year as an NFL tight end.
