The professional record is 27 in a 9 inning game by a pitcher for Bristol

in the Class D Appalachian League in 1952. His name was Ron Necciai and he is the only professional baseball player to play in the Rookie League and be brought up to the majors in the same year. I just learned about this happening on our local radio as they had one of those "on this date in history" segments during a commercial break.
