Good points

This stuff used to police itself. If a kid wanted to transfer he sat a year. That was the best check and balance. It gave the school and program some protection on their investment. It gave the player a relatively small price to pay if really felt he had to leave. Also made them think twice if it was just about getting beat out for first string. No one had to play judge and jury over the reasons and try to write the rules. So whether the player had a mom on her deathbed or a 3rd cousin with a bad rash...or if he was called a dumb dumb or if he was physically assaulted... or if he wanted to play at a higher level (ding ding) or if he wanted a chance to start somewhere else (ding ding), then he made the decision for himself to leave and sit a year. Once the NCAA decided they would rule on what was valid or invalid, they wrecked it all.
