ACC Golf Championships

Its not looking good to win the Commonwealth Clash for either the men's or women's teams even though we are exceeding expectations with regards to overall placement of both. They played 2 of the 3 rounds yesterday; I am assuming that was done in anticipation of bad weather. It looks like the last round will be tomorrow.

The women sit in 5th place, ahead of 5 ranked teams but trail the Hoos by 8 strokes. We played even with them through most of the first round but faltered late to trail by 7. We played them virtually even in the second round, losing by a stroke. Our players have been very consistent with the second round scores being 146, 147 and three at 148. Wake leads the field by 10 strokes (they lead VT by 21) which is a big lead for a top team.

The men are tied for 6th place, ahead of 3 ranked teams but trail the Hoos by 7 strokes. We trailed by 2 after the first round and slipped farther back in the second. Georgia Tech is crushing the field with a 17 stroke lead (they lead VT by 24). We have two freshman leading us; they are both tied for 8th at 140 (-4). GT has a guy at -13! We also have another freshman and a sophomore tied for 28th at 145. Our fifth player in the first two rounds was actually 2 guys, another freshman and a sophomore. You are allowed a 6-man team, 5 of which can play in a round. The lowest 4 rounds for that round count for the team scoring. The future looks bright for the men with our #1, #2, #3 and #5 players all being freshmen and the #4 and #6 players both are sophs.
