Great time. i clmbed the last weeend in July - was 95 in Tokyo and 25 on
the summit. The big thing for Japanese is to summit and see the sunrise. from a prime space. there will be hundreds at the top to watch so you do not want to be late to get a good spot. On suggestion if there is not space is to head a little south on the summit trail for some great observation points.
Also note that the summit is not that highest point. I to reach the highest point you must walk the 2 - 3 hour summit trail around the volcano crater. The trail is not bad, but does have a lot of up and down walking, and getting to the highest point can be challenging as it is a steep climb in fine gravel. At the high point there is a line to get a good picture.
As said, if you want a nice souvenir get the Mt Fuji walking stick. At each of the mountain stations you can get 1 or 2 brands burned into the stick which often include the elevation. At the summit there are 2 ink stamps instead of burned brands. If you want to get all the brands/stamps, get the long (5.5 foot) stick.
Also there is a post office at the summit. If you already have letters/ post cards ready to go avoid the line and drop in the little mailbox.
If you have a clear day at the base and can see the mountain, walk behind the tourist shop building to the shrine. It is a high point and a great unobstructed view of Fuji for a picture.
If you have gaiters, bring them - if not get them. Much of the decent is a cutback trail of gravel. Stones in your boots is not fun.
