Update on my dog from last week...

Last week I posted a thread about my 15-year-old lab mix collapsing and seemingly being on death's door. Well, I'm happy to report that after several new prescriptions, she made a pretty amazing turnaround late last week/over the weekend, and has bounced back virtually to her "baseline" prior to her rapid decline last Monday.

We got her some anti-nausea medication, and then the vet also prescribed another stomach-soothing medicine (Sucralfate), and recommended Pepcid AC as well. The combination of those 3 on Thursday and Friday led to her appetite returning late Friday and Saturday morning. We got her to eat well all weekend long, which allowed us to get her joint supplement into her. The vet also switched her to a different pain medication for arthritis to avoid further stomach upset. The net result is a dog that is eating well again, and seems to no longer be in pain from her arthritis. It's truly remarkable how quickly she turned around, which is great. However, at her age, unfortunately there is no "long-term". But we will take absolutely every good day with her that we can get.

Tonight we had a minor (hopefully) setback when she vomited again after getting a few treats after I got home from work. However, I am realizing in hindsight that she may be exhibiting signs of a pork allergy, as her initial vomiting episodes started after we had been putting some pork fat on top of her food to get her to eat it all (she had been picking at it - we assumed she didn't like one of the supplements that we had mixed into it). Tonight, I gave her a small slice of pork, and about an hour later she vomited. So, no more pork for her. We had already determined that she must have a chicken allergy a couple of years ago, but those symptoms were different (severe itching/dry skin).

Have any of you Loungers had a dog with a protein allergy that resulted in nausea/vomiting?
