I've been considering getting one. I had a whole-home hub...
...made by Iris (the Lowe's in-house home automation brand) and had been looking to expand my system, but unfortunately Iris just folded up shop. Thankfully Lowe's isn't totally screwing Iris users and offered Visa gift cards for each device owned. So, I'll likely get a new system, but haven't had time yet to research what I want.
I had done some research on Ring doorbells, and what I read turned me away. It sounded like people were thrilled with the concept, but overwhelmingly disappointed by the performance. The chief complaints I read were 1) the sensitivity was buggy and people had lots of video of insects and very little video of humans approaching their door, and 2) the software had terrible latency issues, meaning that the live video feed to a phone/tablet was so delayed that it was useless. So based on that feedback, I decided it wasn't the device for me. Perhaps Ring will solve those issues in the future.
I haven't really had time to research any other devices, but I want something that will work with Smart Things. I'd like to install some interior cameras, motion sensors, door and window contacts, etc. and monitor everything with Smart Things. Sorry I can't offer more knowledge about the other options.
