Top ranked guys are usually close

I don't view ZZ's losses to guys he has beaten as outliers or perhaps due to injury: I view them as losses to other very good wrestlers. Sometimes you have a number 1 guy who is a significant step beyond everyone else or maybe even Nos. 1 & 2 are a significant step above everyone else. But otherwise, there is nothing really shocking about a No. 9 or 10 ranked guy beating No. 2, 3 or 4. Wrestling is that type of sport where one move, one little slip can create an opening and suddenly the other wrestler has 6 points (a takedown and 4 backs). It happens. In contrast, the No. 1 or No. 2 ranked football or basketball team is probably going to keep the no. 10 teams under control most of the time. Different sports, and wrestling is more subject to sudden shifts. It's part of what makes the sport great and why these guys have to bring their "A-games" all the time.
