Been using an online bank (USAA) for probably 20 years now


Only time I can ever recall it being even the slightest inconvenient was when I was closing on a house. They would mail me a cashier's check for free, but overnight shipping was expensive. With a brick and mortar bank in your town you could just walk in and get one.

But the convenience of using any ATM anywhere without fees more than makes up for that one episode.


Also just a couple months ago, I opened a savings account at CIT. USAA is awesome for checking, but their savings accounts still only pay something like 0.02%. CIT savings pays about 2.5%. And transferring money between USAA and CIT is pretty seamless once you get it setup.
