What browser/vpn/search engine do you use to reduce advertiser tracking?
Made the switch from Android to iPhone over the holidays, because the idea of personal data/messages/audio being sold to advertisers is increasingly creeping me out. Took a break from the book of faces as well. Now I'm trying to figure out what to use for a browser/vpn combo.
Looking for:
- something that will block the Facebook dot on webpages
- something that will offer more data privacy (not looking to do things illegal, just getting annoyed that others are making money off my data)
- something that is usable on iOS (phone/tablet) and Windows (desktop) - honestly, I like bookmark syncing
- don't mind paying for a good product, just don't want to pay for 20 products until I find the right one
- would like the one-touch search functionality of the Google app (currently have to open a safari tab, clear current url and type search in.....siri sucks for searching), something I can use for search and open results in browser tab
Currently using Safari on iOS, but still using Chrome on Windows until I come up with a holistic solution. Searching using DuckDuckGo.
And I'm not going back to Android. I'm convinced that Apple is, as a company, more committed to data privacy than Google or Facebook. They may have my data, but I believe them when they say they don't sell it to third parties. I may be naive, but, well, there it is.
Go.
