Going after JUCO DT's this class has been a symptom of major misses in
recent years, no doubt. The staff screwed up by not getting more Plan B's in the fold in previous classes that could potentially be 2 Deep contributors this season and next. However, Fuente has gotten a couple JUCO's here and there already and will continue to do so. We got a LB, maybe DE, commit today. LB nor DE (depth) is some huge need at this stage in this class. However, they scouted a kid, thought he was worthy of an offer and gave him one. That's not a symptom of a problem, that's scouting and evaluation IMO. That addresses point A.
Re: Point B, I don't know if he has more likelihood of working out than a HS recruit. Given that's he 2 years older and has film against better competition (I know horrible response below, right?) he should be an "easier" evaluation than a high school kid IMO. One important thing is that, at worst, he will likely play on special teams. How many true freshmen redshirts have we burned playing special teams only? See how this could help having more of our high school recruits getting a full 5 years to play 4 re: extra development?
