I'm not crazy about the long term series with ECU. I would be happy playing the Pirates four times in eight years, twice in Blacksburg, once in Greenville and once in Charlotte. Maybe four times in six years at most.

But we know we are going to play one or two mid-level G5 schools every year. When you factor recruiting North Carolina and ticket sales and general ease of access for our fans, there really isn't another similar opponent out there that measures up to ECU. I suppose UNC-Charlotte could give similar recruiting access to the Carolinas, but a win against the 49ers counts less than one against the Pirates and a loss would be as bad as losing to ODU. The ODU and Liberty series are more objectionable than the ECU series and, in my view, make the ECU series less attractive than it otherwise would be. I'll take a mix of Marshall, Appy State, Middle Tennessee, ODU, Charlotte and those types but if we're going to play one of those sorts of opponents a little more than others, I'll take ECU.
