For what it's worth, the NCAA selection committee had us 8th in their rankings they released on Sunday (10/28). However, those rankings were for games through 10/21, and we tied Davidson on 10/23 and lost at home to Duke on 10/26.

48 teams make the NCAA tournament (24 auto and 24 at large). The top 16 teams get 1st round byes, and they get a second round game at home. So (obviousy), getting a top 16 seed is huge as you "just" have to win one home game to make it to the sweet 16.

If we don't make it to the top 16, then we could still at least get a first round home game. I would have to think that we will at least get a first round home game even if we get knocked out by Syracuse.
