Strength training yes but also...

...the ability of the OLmen to pack on strength. Some people are naturally big, but no matter how much iron temple worship they do, they just don't get the gainz. Heck, I fall in that category. I've been powerlifting for 2 years now, and while my numbers go up slowly, I just get leaner and skinnier and don't really pack on mass or see big gains quick. I've always been lean out, hard gainer guy, never found the right combo of diet and workout to do different.

Others, they need the right combo of diet, nutrition, and lifting that is right for them individually, and it can be tough finding it. It's just genetics. We can recruit guys that are big, think they can put on mass, they do, but it still doesn't translate to strength that overpowers a good Dline. The OLmen that develop like that, they're all getting scooped up by 'Bama, tOSU, UGA, LSU, etc.

I'm sure Hilgart knows what he's doing as a trainer. I see guys in the squatracks next to me that are just beasts, lots of 'em. I see lots of trainers working people and turning them into physical specimens. The problems on OLine are probably more related to the OLmen's ability and their ceiling for physical performance. Not trying to run them down, just saying I don't think this will get better until we get some guys that have a higher ceiling. Which is really really hard because there are so few of them to try to recruit to start with, and trying to out recruit the teams that are currently getting them is a big hurdle.
