SWVA was in the stormtrack, and VA had declared an emergency.

Your approach to ensuring early arrival during emergency situations is valid, and I've been that guy for my company before, too. Unfortunately, it doesn't acknowledge that Tech's status was still uncertain at the time, and looked unfavorable. The impetus for Virginia's state of emergency was coastal storm-surge concerns, but there were also warnings about potential flooding throughout a state that's been having above average rainfall recently.

Also worth noting, sending student-athletes into harm's way is a different issue than sending official state employees. They're labor necessary to fulfill the commitment, but in a different class from coaches & staff. There's also a helluva lot of them, which requires more effort in securing accommodations on short notice. It's doable, and I'm sure Tech was jumping through hoops to make it happen, but ECU's campus shutdown really changed the scenario.

I appreciate the perspective.
