ECU worked with us and communicated with us quite a bit ...
Up until that final and fateful announcement. We KNEW that they didn't want to come. They told us plenty of times, I'm sure.
The two schools had a disagreement about the timing of the decision. ECU decided it was in their best interest for the decision to be made Tuesday instead of waiting until Wednesday. I would strongly wager they made that known to VT and were told that VT wanted to wait. I would strongly wager they told us PLENTY of times that they wanted to cancel on Tuesday when everyone else was -- and VT said they wanted to wait. At that point, I believe ECU essentially said "Well if they're not going to listen to us, screw 'em, we'll make OUR announcement on what WE need to do for OUR student-athletes."
Let's not paint this as a lack of communication between the two schools. That doesn't appear to be the case at all. It's more a lack of agreement on how early to call the game, and ECU deciding that (1) they disagreed with our decision and (2) didn't care to abide by it.
