I’ll just install a V-brake on the front if not set up for a cantilever

Can get a Shimano XT V-brake for ~$30. Would love to get an XTR V-brake, but don’t want to take a chance with used ones on EBay, especially at those prices...lol. All current XTR brakes are disks.
