Southern pine beetles rarely go above about 7 ft rom the ground. Bore thru


The bark and attack the cambium layer basically girdling the tree. You can see frass and resin oozing out of the holes. If a woodpecker was pecking it prob wasn’t SPBs... although they are only one of a variety of beetles.
