To your first point: some directors want the band to just play loud, some

want to play with what are called "dynamics" (because not everything sounds awesome at full blast). IMO the MVs do too much of that, and their baseline should start much louder, but with room to still do dynamics. Total amateur opinion, but have been in marching band.

On the HTs, I might once have disagreed, now, I can't make a compelling counterargument.
