We'd see it out on the ice in the distance. Storms blowing from Siberia...

the temperatures would go up into the high teens and lower twenties. The humidity would rise, the winds would near hurricane force and wham.

To see them with the Northern Lights overhead before the cloud cover blew in was one of the most spectacular things I've ever witnessed and I witnessed some spectacular things up there in my 6 years.
