I have a little history with McHenry
I don't want to say too much about McHenry or his dad, but my experience with them fits with his flirtations with Cornell and Michigan. I don't want to go into detail, but I was in a position a couple of years ago to interview McHenry's father about placing his son in an elite private high school for wrestling. This was before his son was on the cover of a lot of magazines, but there was already some buzz about him. Mr. McHenry, it was very clear to me, was trying to get his son into very elite/selective private high schools - with maybe some hope of scholarship money (but we never got to that discussion) - based on his wrestling skill. He ended up at a pretty good private school in Maryland.
I'm not suggesting that there is anything wrong with Mr. McHenry's approach at all. In fact, quite the opposite. He wanted his son and his other children to get the most elite education possible, with the lure of a wrestling dynamo to get him into places that are darned near impossible for many people. Seems like that approach likely continued at the college level. I would have thought Cornell would have been his top choice; in fact, I was expecting that or Princeton.
