Arsenal Tech (Indianapolis, IN) senior Adonis Williamson has verbally committed to Virginia Tech over Louisville, Missouri and Northern Illinois, bringing the Hokies’ class of 2015 commitment total to 18. Williamson becomes the fifth defensive back prospect in Tech’s class, which also includes rover Adonis Alexander, free safety/corner Jahque Alleyne, and cornerbacks DuWayne Johnson and Mook Reynolds.
“Next fall I’m taking my talents to Virginia Tech. I think they are a good fit for me and what I do. DBU is how I feel.” – Williamson’s tweet this afternoon.
Williamson announced his decision this afternoon at a press conference at his high school. Fellow Arsenal Tech senior Eric Whitehead, a defensive tackle, has been a Virginia Tech pledge since this past spring.
“I like [Virginia Tech] because they produce corners and they tell me they have a plan for me. Every time I talk to their coach, he says they have a plan for me,” Williamson said in this TSL Pass report back in July.
A player with potential at cornerback or safety on the next level, the 6’1”, 185-pound Williamson is rated a 3-star recruit by 247Sports.com, Rivals.com and ESPN.com. He was recently named first-team all-state by the AP.
“[Coach Gray] said I was physical. He likes that I’m a physical, aggressive corner,” said Williamson, whose primary recruiter is Aaron Moorehead, but he has also kept in constant contact with DBs coach Torrian Gray. “He likes how I can come downhill to make some tackles.”
